I remember when I was a teenager, my dad teasing me that I didn’t know how to boil an egg. I always laugh at that, but it always stuck with me. Now, not only do I know how to boil an egg, be it soft or hard, I’m going to share with you how to boil the PERFECT egg.
In this case, we are going to learn how to boil the perfect hard boiled egg. What is perfect? Well to be considered a perfect hard boiled egg, the yolk must be firm, not dry and have a uniform yellow color. And the most important thing is that there can be no, and I mean NO, greenish halo around the yolk! 🙂

This is pretty simple! Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. About one inch of water covering the eggs will do.

Bring the water to a boil and immediately cover with a lid and turn off the heat. Let the eggs sit in the covered saucepan for exactly 10 minutes. After 10 minutes is up, remove from the hot water and place in a container of cold water to stop them from cooking. That’s it! Pretty simple!

If you follow these simple directions, you’ll be making perfect hard boiled eggs that can be used for many occasions and purposes such as Scotch Eggs, Egg Salad, Deviled Eggs and Smashed Devils on Toast. Look for my left-over egg recipes which will come in handy for Easter or any occasion!
